THE SCIENCE Ninja Van will be touring the South West during National Science Week to deliver their zesty science show about food to pubs in Dardanup, Busselton, Margaret River and Pemberton.
Scitech's Science Ninjas will be exploring some of the myths behind everyday foods
According to Science Ninja and CSIRO Lab Presenter Megan Goldspink, the hands-on activities will give a fun introduction on how to explore the simple science found in an everyday kitchen.
“Designed largely for an adult audience, the Science Ninja Van will deliver a hilarious, albeit scientifically accurate show about food, alcohol and perception,” says Goldspink.
“Participants will be amazed as we manipulate their tastebuds by altering their senses and tricking the brain into thinking the impossible.
“In the soft drink taste test we will ask people to pick the flavour of each drink – with some very surprising results. We also invite you to experience a drink that changes flavour depending on what you smell and find out why it is that you are grossed out about the thought of eating insects, before we change your perception and challenge you to try our edible insect delights for yourself!”
The Science Ninjas will be joined by Professor Garry Lee, food scientist from the University of Western Australia’s Forensic and Analytical Chemistry Group. Professor Lee – who is known to some as the inventor of the simulated roasted coffee bean fragrance in jars of instant coffee – will be on hand to reveal some of the startling secrets behind the everyday items available in Australian supermarkets.
