The Conservation Awards were created by the Conservation Council of WA in 2005 to recognise and reward groups and individuals in the Western Australian community whose passion and dedication have made an outstanding contribution to the protection of the environment in our state.

Conservation Council director Piers Verstegen said: “These Awards recognise the enormous and often voluntary contribution of Western Australia's numerous community organisations, groups and individuals in conserving the State's unique environment.

“All recipients this year are outstanding leaders in our community and have shown qualities of strength, dedication and commitment towards protecting WA’s natural environment as well as providing invaluable support and guidance for future generations to do the same.”

The Honourable Donna Faragher, Minister for the Environment and Youth presented the awards to recipients at a special ceremony in Kings Park last night.

The Conservation Awards are announced annually during Conservation Week.  Conservation Week is the largest community environment event in WA that celebrates WA’s unique environment and the community effort that goes into conserving and promoting action to protect it.  Conservation Week commenced on Saturday the 28th of March and concludes this Sunday the 5th April.
